Car Rental in Leh Ladakh

Most guests who fly in still want a car and driver, because the sights on a Leh Ladakh tour lie a hundred kilometres apart in every direction. Nubra over Khardung La, Pangong Tso over Chang La and Tso Moriri to the south each need an Inner Line Permit, which we arrange before you leave Leh. Spend the first full day in town before any pass; the driver will not take a guest higher on arrival day.

Budget the days honestly: two for acclimatising in Leh, a full day each way for Nubra over Khardung La, a long pre-dawn start for Pangong - many parties now sleep lakeside at Spangmik and return the next day - and one day for the Sham valley's monasteries: Alchi's thousand-year murals, Likir's giant Maitreya, Basgo's ruined citadel. That is already a week before Tso Moriri enters the plan.

Small logistics decide comfort at altitude: fuel fills happen in Leh because the next pumps are far and occasionally dry, phone coverage thins beyond the passes to postpaid networks only, cash matters in the villages, and the driver's judgement about crossing a melt-swollen stream is worth more than any schedule. Culture fills the acclimatisation days without strain: the Central Asian Museum in Leh's old town, morning prayers at Thiksey where the horns sound before sunrise, the Hall of Fame's Kargil galleries on the airport road, and Stok Palace, where the royal family still keeps a wing. August's apricot harvest turns the Sham valley villages into drying-roof mosaics.

Respect the region's fragility: refill water instead of buying plastic, keep to the tracks at Pangong's shore, and photograph monastery interiors only where permitted. Drivers brief guests on pass etiquette too - prayer-flag stops at Khardung La run two minutes, not twenty, once a queue builds.

Flights into Leh land early, because mountain winds close the window by late morning - so arrival days start gently by design. Ask for a left-side window seat flying in from Delhi for the Karakoram panorama, and keep the first evening to the bazaar and the rooftop cafes.
