Once your group crosses six or seven people, a tempo traveller rent is the obvious choice. It fits 9 to 26 travellers and their luggage in one vehicle, with one driver and one bill. The harder question comes next: should you pay by the kilometre, or ask for a fixed package price?
You can get tempo traveller rent in Delhi quote both ways. The two numbers can look very different for the same trip, and the lower-looking quote is not always the cheaper one. This guide explains how each model works, runs the numbers on three real trips from Delhi, and lists the extra charges to check before you pay an advance.
The cheaper option depends on how far you drive each day. For long daily runs on outstation trips, per km rent is usually cheaper. For city sightseeing, short hops and trips with rest days, a fixed package wins.
How tempo traveller rent per km works?
Tempo Traveller rent Per km billing multiplies the distance driven by a fixed rate for your vehicle size. Bigger vehicles cost more per kilometre because they burn more fuel and cost more to run. Our 2026 outstation rates for tempo traveller rent in Delhi are:
| Vehicle | Best for | Rate (₹/km) |
|---|---|---|
| 9 seater | Families, small groups | 25 |
| 12 seater | Two families, office teams | 26 |
| 14 seater | Mid-size groups | 27 |
| 16 seater | Large families, pilgrim groups | 27 |
| 18 seater | Wedding parties | 29 |
| 20 seater | College and corporate groups | 30 |
| 24 seater | Big groups who want one vehicle | 32 |
Three rules decide what you actually pay under this model:
- Minimum 250 km per day. On outstation trips you pay for at least 250 km for every calendar day the vehicle is booked, even if you drive less. A rest day in Manali still counts as 250 km.
- Garage to garage. The meter starts when the vehicle leaves our garage in central Delhi and stops when it returns. Pickup from Noida or Gurgaon adds those kilometres.
- Extras on top. Driver allowance, tolls, parking and state entry taxes are added at actuals, not built into the rate.
Per km billing is fully transparent. You see every kilometre on the odometer and pay only for that, as long as you cross the daily minimum.
How tempo traveller rental fixed packages work?
A fixed package gives you one price for a set amount of time, distance or itinerary. It comes in two common forms.
Local packages cover sightseeing inside Delhi NCR. You book a slab of hours and kilometres, commonly 8 hours and 80 km. Anything beyond that slab is billed as extra hours or extra kilometres. This suits a day of Delhi sightseeing, a wedding shuttle, or an airport pickup by tempo traveller.
Itinerary packages cover a named route, such as a same day Agra trip or a Manali tour from Delhi. You get one all-in price for the vehicle on that route. Many itinerary packages also bundle tolls, driver allowance and state taxes, so the number you see is close to the number you pay.
The trade-off is flexibility. A fixed package is priced for the plan you agreed. Add a detour to Mathura or an extra day, and the price is revised.
Per km vs fixed package at a glance
| Per km rent | Fixed package | |
|---|---|---|
| How the price is set | Distance driven × rate per km | One price for agreed hours, km or route |
| Daily minimum | 250 km per day on outstation trips | Built into the package |
| Tolls, parking, state tax | Usually extra, at actuals | Often included on itinerary packages |
| Flexibility | High: change the route as you go | Low: changes are re-quoted |
| Budget certainty | Final bill known only at the end | Known before you travel |
| Best for | Long daily drives, open itineraries | City use, short trips, trips with rest days |
Three Delhi trips, priced both ways
The examples below use our per km rates and approximate road distances. Tolls, parking, state taxes and driver allowance are left out so the vehicle cost is easy to compare.
| Trip | Vehicle | Km actually driven | Km billed | Per km cost | Better choice |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Delhi to Agra and back, 1 day | 12 seater | about 480 | 480 | ₹11,520 | Per km |
| Delhi to Manali, 5 days | 16 seater | about 1,230 | 1,250 | ₹32,500 | Close call |
| Delhi sightseeing, 1 day | 9 seater | about 70 | 250 | ₹5,750 | Fixed local package |
Delhi to Agra same day. The round trip via the Yamuna Expressway is about 460 km, plus around 20 km between the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and lunch. At 480 km you are well past the 250 km minimum, so every kilometre you pay for is one you used. Per km is fair and transparent here. A fixed package only wins if it bundles the expressway tolls and UP entry tax at a lower total.
Delhi to Manali in 5 days. Delhi to Manali is about 540 km each way. Add Solang Valley, Atal Tunnel and Kullu, and the trip runs to roughly 1,230 km. Five days at 250 km gives a 1,250 km minimum, so you pay for 20 km you never drove: about ₹520 extra. Add a rest day and the gap grows to 270 km, or roughly ₹7,000. Ask for Delhi to Manali Tempo Traveller Price as well as complete Delhi to Manali tour package cost and compare the two.
A day of Delhi sightseeing. Red Fort, India Gate, Qutub Minar and Lotus Temple add up to about 70 km. Outstation per km billing would charge you for 250 km, or ₹5,750 for a 9 seater. Delhi sightseeing tour by tempo traveller priced on an 8 hour, 80 km slab is built for exactly this day and costs much less.
When each option is cheaper
The simple test: divide your total trip kilometres by the number of days. If the answer is well above 250, per km is likely cheaper. If it is below 250, a fixed package usually saves money.
Choose per km rent when:
- You drive 300 km or more on most days, as on Delhi to Jaipur, Haridwar or Amritsar runs
- Your plan may change and you want to add stops without re-negotiating
- You want to see exactly what you pay for, kilometre by kilometre
Choose a fixed package when:
- You are touring inside Delhi NCR or making airport and wedding transfers
- Your trip has rest days or short drives, as in a hill-station stay
- You want the full cost, tolls and taxes included, agreed before you travel
- You are booking for a school, office or pilgrim group and need one approved number
If you are unsure, ask for both quotes for the same itinerary. A good operator will show you the per km working next to the package price.
Hidden charges to check before tempo traveller booking in Delhi
A low per km rate can end up costing more than a higher all-in quote. Before your tempo traveller booking in Delhi, ask the operator to confirm each of these in writing:
- Driver allowance: the daily amount, and whether night charges apply after 10 pm
- Tolls and parking: included, or paid at actuals during the trip
- State entry tax: who pays when you cross into Uttar Pradesh, Himachal, Rajasthan or Uttarakhand
- Garage-to-garage distance: where the garage is and how far it is from your pickup point
- Daily minimum: whether 250 km applies to every day, including rest days
- Extra hours and extra km: the rate once a local package slab runs out
- GST: whether the quote is before or after tax
- AC use in the hills: some operators charge extra or limit AC on climbs
As a Ministry of Tourism-recognised operator since 2000, we will break down each of these on your quote, so you know what you are paying for before you confirm.

Frequently asked questions
What is the tempo traveller rent per km in Delhi?
Our 2026 outstation rates start at ₹23 per km for a 9 seater and go up to ₹30 per km for a 24 seater. Driver allowance, tolls, parking and state taxes are extra.
Is there a minimum distance for tempo traveller hire in Delhi?
Yes. Outstation trips are billed for at least 250 km per day, even if you drive less. Local trips inside Delhi NCR use hour and km packages instead.
Is fuel included in the per km rate?
Yes. Fuel is part of the per km rate. Tolls, parking and state entry taxes are not.
Can I switch from a package to per km in the middle of a trip?
Usually not. The billing model is agreed at booking. If your plans are likely to change, choose per km from the start.
Which is cheaper for a weekend trip to Rishikesh or Jaipur?
Both cities are 230 to 280 km from Delhi, so a two-day trip runs close to the 500 km minimum. Compare a per km quote with a fixed package; the gap is often small, and the package gives price certainty.
Do Maharaja and Force Urbania vehicles cost more?
Yes. Luxury interiors carry a higher rate than standard tempo travellers. See our Force Urbania rental rate in Delhi.
