The temple opens in April-May and closes on the day of Bhai Dooj (around October-November). Yamunotri holds immense religious importance as it is believed to be the abode of the goddess Yamuna, who is considered the sister of Lord Yama, the god of death. The main attraction is the Yamunotri Temple, dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. The temple opens on auspicious day of Akshay Tritiya and closes on the day of Diwali in October or November. Pilgrims trek through picturesque landscapes to reach the temple and offer prayers to the deity. Apart from the temple, Yamunotri is known for its hot springs, called the Surya Kund and Gauri Kund. The journey to Yamunotri involves a trek of approximately 6 kilometers from Janki Chatti, the base camp. Gangotri Dham

The journey begins from the holy city Haridwar, Rishikesh or Dehradun. If you are booking Chardham Yatra Package from Delhi, you will reach Haridwar at first for 1 night stay and Haridwar sightseeing. From there, you travel to the first destination, Yamunotri. The route takes you through the towns of Barkot and Hanuman Chatti. After reaching Hanuman Chatti, you must cover the remaining distance by foot or on mules/horses. The trek from Hanuman Chatti to Yamunotri is approximately 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) and usually takes around 5-6 hours.
